Session D: 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

This program surveys family law decisions in the past year, and significant statutory and Practice Book changes that implicate family practice. Discussion of cases organized by subject matter: child custody, alimony, child support, property division, attorney’s fees, modification of orders, contempt, evidence, discovery, pendente lite orders, and post-judgment orders.

Speakers

Alexander J. Cuda,
Conlon & McGlynn LLC, Westport

Alexander J. Cuda is a partner at Conlon & McGlynn, LLC, where he practices family and matrimonial law. Alex is an experienced negotiator and litigator where the setting is the courtroom, mediation, or arbitration. He also handles family and matrimonial appeals. Alex emphasizes the importance of vigorous advocacy, communication, responsiveness, and personalized representation and understanding of each client’s needs. He handles both custody and financial matters. Representative cases Alex handled have included relocation of parents with children, valuations of closely held businesses, substance abuse / addiction / mental health issues, disposition of intellectual property rights in the marital estate, and challenges to and enforcement of premarital agreements.

Alex’s leadership in the family law bar is well-recognized. He actively publishes and speaks on family law issues. Alex lives with his family in Fairfield County.

 

Steven R. Dembo, Berman Bourns Aaron & Dembo, West Hartford

Attorney Dembo is a skilled litigator with substantial experience in matrimonial, civil, personal injury, criminal cases and appeals. He is widely respected & routinely handles complex cases involving multiple legal issues. Recognized by Super Lawyers in the area of Family Law for years 2008-2013.

A James W. Cooper Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation, Attorney Dembo is a Special Master, Family Division, with the Hartford and Middletown Superior Courts. He is also a member of the Town of West Hartford’s Board of Personnel.

Attorney Dembo holds a B.S. from the State University of New York at Binghamton and earned his J.D. from Western New England College of Law. He is admitted to practice in Connecticut (1990) and is a member of the Hartford County, Connecticut and American Bar Associations.

 

Louise T. Truax , Lax & Truax LLC, Southport

Lax & Truax LLC was formed in December 1998 by Attorney Truax and Sandra Lax. Attorney Truax is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She practices throughout the State of Connecticut in both the trial and appellate courts. She is a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.

Attorney Truax is frequently appointed to represent children in contested custody cases as both an attorney for minor children (AMC) or guardian ad Litem (GAL). She regularly serves the Connecticut Superior Court as a Special Master in family cases, including at the Regional Trial docket in Middletown, where contested custody trials are usually conducted.

Attorney Truax is an active member of the Connecticut Bar Association Family Law Section, having previously served as the Section President. She is active with the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers having served on the Child Custody Evaluation Standards Committee and Standards for Attorneys for Children in Custody or Visitation Proceedings Committee. She is a member of the planning committee and faculty for the State of Connecticut AMC/GAL training program.

 

 

Aiden R. Welsh, Schooner George & Blomberg PC, Old Greenwich

Attoreny Welsh is a Partner at Schoonmaker George & Blomberg PC   Attorney Welsh joined the law firm in 2006. Attorney Welsh graduated with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2006.  While in law school, she served on the Connecticut Law Review and received awards for excellence in Evidence and Civil Procedure.

Attorney Welsh handles complex divorce and family law actions involving significant assets and child custody issues.  She also has significant experience drafting and negotiating premarital agreements. Attorney Welsh was recently selected to be in included in The Best Lawyers in America, 2015 (c) in the field of Family Law. She is also recognized by SuperLawyers Magazine as a Rising Star in the Field of Family Law for 2013-2014.   The Connecticut Law Tribune recognized Attorney Welsh as a New Leader in the Law in 2012.

Attorney Welsh is an active member of the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA). In 2011, she was recognized as a Rising Star of the CBA Family Law Section. Attorney Welsh currently serves as the Treasurer of the CBA Young Lawyers Section Executive Committee, after having previously served on the CBA YLS Executive Committee as the Co-chair of the Family Law Committee, Co-director of Continuing Legal Education and Secretary. Attorney Welsh this past year served on the CBA’s task force for Continuing Legal Education.

Attorney Welsh frequently speaks on issues related to Family Law for the CBA and has authored several publications in this field. She recently was the Co-Editor for the Connecticut Family Law Forms book published by the Connecticut Law Tribune. She also authored the article “Initial Client Interview” in the MCLE publication on Connecticut Family Law.
